FREE CHARITY DAHLIAS TO NAME IN 2012
Having had a miserable response to the charities I chose for 2011 it dawned on me how could I expect anyone to donate when everyone's feeling the squeeze financially? Not only that but to donate several times and then not get a prize at the end of it is soul destroying? Mind you one group of loyal followers definitely had a cause they were passionate about - if you took the time to look on my Just Giving pages even as an inquisitive bystander you would have seen the page supporting Bowel Cancer. This one page out stripped the twenty four I created in 2010, and its current total stands at £1,080. Because of this I've changed tactics, and scrapping the idea of presenting a dahlia to name with a draw at the end of the year - it seems there is no incentive for this even though a few thought it was a good idea. You see you must have a cause, and people who are willing to support that cause. So the dahlias I breed will be free to anyone who needs help to raise money - oh there were a few who like last year parted with hard earned cash, but on the whole the result was dismal. What ever charity you want to support I will provide a dahlia for it if you've a mind, and in what ever colour you prefer except blue. Apart from that I guess there is nothing else I can do - because I find no pleasure in making pages on Just Giving when no one wants to support them. There are probably some of you who consider I should forget about my hobby all together, and concentrate on looking after my dear Irene - the people nearest me know Irene is very well cared for, but without my hobby, and even with both my darling daughters help I know I'd have folded - such is the nature of dementia. So remember find a cause and people passionate about it and you can have a dahlia to front it absolutely free - what's more you can name it what ever you like - of course it will still have to use Just Giving's facilities to keep the operation kosher - all you have to do is to tell me how you want the page presented. Of course there is another option if you can afford it - you could commission one you only have to ask.
Just before the year ends I must tell you all that the Just Giving page supporting Bowel Charity ended up with donations of £1,500 that's three times the amount I asked for. The thee dahlias supporting the page will be trialled at Aylett's nursery in St Albans next year, and be on sale there in 2013.
