Devon soil or I'm a Dutchman, do they import it?

Looks to me like John's put some kind of soil improver down at regular intervals, first of all I thought it was shadows, but if you look on the right hand side of the photograph, it spills out into the sunshine. Moments later John sent me an email and explained what the soil improver was.

The heaps of stuff is composted cow manure ready to be spread before rotary hoeing again.

The soil it's self seems to be the same colour as a good Devon loam, plenty of iron in that lot I shouldn't wonder. It's surprising what you can gleam from a good photograph. First of all you can tell the structure's level, and it's the cameraman's that's slightly tilted, caused know doubt by living in the area where all that good Australia wine is produced. He's bound to take a snifter occasionally, well you can't fault a man for taking a sup between shifts, considering the work involved.
