Florence Revett. SWL,   Brenna. MSC.   Copycat. SWL.

Florence Revett was named after my dear mother in law - now sadly doesn't reside on mother earth and sadly missed. Did well in a poor position - as did all the water lily dahlias last year. There is one thing this group needs and it's light but I forgot the lesson I'd once learnt. Brenna is a beautiful dahlia, but if Nick Gilbert hasn't stock of it in the dahlias I passed over to him in 2009 it is probably a lost angel. The problem with naming dahlias after people is if you loose them. Brenna is an Irish name, and was named after a lady gardeners daughter who could loose her sight. You can be sure yours truly will make amends if indeed  it is no more. Copycat was dependable as a garden variety, but it didn't live up to its illustrious parent.

Mayan Blush. SSC.   Mayan Peace. MSC.   Charles W. Welch.  GSC/LSC.

Another dahlia which didn't show up in the batch I left for growing at Little Wisley was Mayan Blush - this colour doesn't always go down well with all - the form at the seedling stage was immaculate and I was almost certain the petals would quill more grown with room hopefully Nick had it on the field last year. Mayan Peace was far better than in its seedling year despite its cramped position between one of the strongest growing collaret's I've ever encountered which is Dream Cream. To its right was an equally impressive dahlia called Charles W. Welch which was named after an email friend of mine. I suppose out of all the dahlias that graced my seedling bed this was he best it had size and stamina of any thoroughbred and I can't wait to sow the few seeds it produced. With seven up I couldn't get the flower through a giant ring - I pray restricting it to four won't ruin the form.
