EIGHTY YEARS OLD WERE DID THE TIME GO?
Last Thursday the tenth of November 2011 I celebrated my eightieth birthday with all the family. Of course it is no big deal reaching eighty, but I was grateful to have reached this particular milestone as on a number of occasions I might never have made fifty. Our girls had done us proud - Mick our son-in-law picked us up around twelve o'clock - and we sat down to a full blown English dinner of roast lamb, and all the trimmings. During the day more of the family joined us - among them grand children, and great grandchildren. Presents and cards were received, and among them one highly decorative envelope from Amy Rose aged seven our youngest great granddaughter. You know my views on education - bought about by not really having any my self because of World War two - so with this in mind I opened Amy Rose's envelope - this is what it contained.

KEEN GARDENER. EXCELLENT WORKER. NO ONE COULD BE WITHOUT HIM.
SMILE THAT LIGHTS UP THE ROOM. THANKFUL HEART. OVER THE MOON TO KNOW HIM. COOL FLOWERS AND COOL MAN. KEEPS THE FAMILY TOGETHER WITH LOVE. |
You can bet that was the most significant part of my day - I can just imagine her school report - "This child will go far" And the line that broke my heart on that eightieth day? "No one could be without him" and only seven. It took me back to that very first air raid when I to was seven - I used to worry about the human race, but with youngsters like Amy Rose making their mark - what was I worrying about? I was told on the day this particular way of writing is called something, but for the life of me at this moment I can't remember - well I am eighty?
