| Amber Festival has been an incredible sport, it is now grown all over the World, and it complements the parent Gateshead Festival admirably, as you can see from this photograph, it is a soft amber and like it parent a small decorative. Funny thing is, the year it sported it was Yellow, Jack remembers it well, it was the year he past as a qualified dahlia judge at Kendal in Cumbria, the year was 1996. He took a flower with him to show Derek Hewlett, who was going to be there, Derek thought it was a very good sport. In September he took two cuttings, and rooted them to over winter, he lost one, but managed to keep the other ticking over until planting time the following year, when he planted it at the end of a row of Gateshead Festival. When it flowered it had changed from yellow to amber. From then on it stayed amber, and was Registered at Wisely Royal Horticultural Society in 1998. Wanna hear why gets so many sports? I think it's an article for `Just Dahlias' don't you. See you at the trials. | ||||
